Reps. Kowalko and Johnson propose Interstate Job Task Force.
State Representatives John Kowalko (D -- Newark South) and James Johnson (D -- New Castle) have proposed legislation to establish the Delaware Interstate Job Cooperative Task Force.
House Concurrent Resolution No.26 would establish a Task Force to form a cooperative alliance with the state of Maryland and neighboring states to create jobs, fill job needs and ensure an adequate workforce for available jobs.
Rep. Kowalko said that the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC)’s military base decisions have made a significant number of job opportunities available in Maryland, within commuting distance of Delaware's skilled workforce: "The challenge of providing sufficient numbers of skilled workers that faces our sister state of Maryland can be met with this type of cooperative effort."
"The recent job losses at the Chrysler plant spurred our efforts to look at all existing job opportunities in the local area while efforts continue to revitalize the Delaware economy" said Rep. Johnson.
